They’re designed to cash in on the appeal of Monster High and Bratz dolls, so their design isn’t the least bit surprising. While I think a lot of the added elements (the horse ears, cutie marks on the face, and really stupid ponytails added to the end of their hair to resemble horse tails) they designs are actually kind of cute to me.
 
They’re stylized. They’re not supposed to be proportioned like actual human beings, and the rest of the crap thrown on top of them kind of throws the idea of them being the least bit human completely out the window.
 
Settle the fuck down already. Nobody’s forcing you to watch the new show. If it’s really that bad, it’ll die on it’s own. It’s not even the least bit any of our concerns.

I did the exact opposite before I started watching the actual show, but found out I liked it soon after!

I’m not bothered by ‘em personally. Though, I think Pinkie should’ve been a chubby girl.
 
Also, seeing as how Twilight has wings, it looks like it probably won’t be a “temporary” look after all. (Not that I mind, I like her wings personally.)

I think they’re alright to me.

I’m not saying the designs are terrible… but I’m willing to bet that I could come up with better humanizations if I could take some creative liberties with the designs… and hell, I would be drawing them up right now if I had any sort of artistic talent, but I don’t, but I’d at least try not to copy and paste the same format six times over.
 
I mean, in all honesty, you could probably design better characters if you just combined various elements from MLP:FiM and Azumanga Daioh.

Also I like female characters to have some more mass than “stick figures”. Give Pinkie a bit of pudge, RD some tone, and AJ some leg, then you might convince me.

The problem from my perspective is if you go with just the silhouette of what the character is, they kinda all have a similar feel minus the hair (honestly the pony tail is clever/silly/not very practical).
 
The other issue I have is if this is supposed to be how Hasbro wants to celebrate 30 years of pony, it’s a bit of an insult into the franchise.

general design: bland, but not terrible.  
unusual colours and cutie marks on face: *leaves the room, loudly slamming the door*

The difference between something that will alway just be a fanart and something that will be canon. A design that is made to be canon have higher standard than a fanart.
