The new designs are better.

Or I should say, the current versions are anthro. At least this original drawing just had them as humans with colorful skin, which I was perfectly capable of accepting.

I know, right? I was at least looking forward to there being a version of MLP that would be safe from the alicorn Twilight crap, but looks like even the human version of MLP won’t be safe. You can’t even really call these humans either, since they are anthro.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I prefer Mulp’s. Pretty much the only redeeming aspect of the premise for me was that Twilight wouldn’t be physically set apart like she will in S4, but they screwed that one up by not only giving her wings, but giving her bigger wings than Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash.

Personally, the only one that I think is “Meh” is Twilight in both versions (There’s just something about her face that’s really off). I think Mulp’s Fluttershy looks better, but I think I kinda prefer most of the latest designs better, particularly Applejack.

Because this stuff has to go through several layers of corporate hierarchy before it can reach the public.
 
The first design is usually the best, because the designer just tries to make something that looks good and then sees if his bosses like it. Then they send it to someone else and tell them to make a bunch of changes, and then it bounces around the company several times until it looks like a baby that got used for a volleyball.
 
I’m not sure what point in the process the original leaked image came from, but it was probably not the earliest design pitch. The earliest one probably would have had smaller heads and slightly less “toy-like” proportions, and then the toy people look at it and make a few changes before corporate has at it and says that they need to look more like ponies and have wings.

The new designs are slightly worse. Why do things always have to get worse?

Strangely, these ones don’t even look so bad compared to the new ones. I wasns’t really complaining that much about Equestria Girls in the first place, but the current near-final designs are so bizzare looking that it’s borderline grotesque to me.
 
Also, I would much rather have straight up humanized ponies (with possibly fantastical skin colors) like these, as opposed to the current ones which are pretty much anthro, except there are only pegasi and no unicorns.

I dunno about this ‘we’. I ain’t watching it. They can do what they like~
