Actually Zipp is female. The two are sisters, hence the name rhyming (Pipp - Zipp).

Wing size/style could be geared towards what each character’s main traits/skills are.

So either the show is applying the logic that male ponies would be significantly heavier than females, and require more lift, thus the larger wingspan.

Or Zipp is related to Flurry Heart. xD
