It was pretty hardcore, but given how the D&D creators were working on the OG MLP and it was following the standards of fairy tales, yeah it was to be expected. I mean, have you seen what Snow White did to the evil Queen in the original tale? It was pretty grim to say the least xD
Pretty sure Tirek also had a beating heart that he kept in a bag.
And I will never stop being surprised to realize that way back in the very first MLP show ever, they turned three adorable little ponies into howling monsters with black magic.
