Consensus… What actually happened was like this:
A /co/ anon among the first people to watch the show: “This pony looks funny. Her hair has toothpaste-like colors. She has no name, so I call her ‘Colgate’, because it’s funny.”
Then it got added to the Wiki, because the Wiki accepted fanon freely at that time.
Then, as the community grew, everyone learned her name as ‘Colgate’ and got used to it.
Then, when she happened to finally get an official name, people got confused: “But isn’t her name Colgate? People said so… :o”

@Rainbow Dude
I’m actually going to agree with you. “Minuette” is a MUCH better name than “Colgate”. ‘Course, I also think the brushie/dentist fanon around her is dumb. Yet, who am I to go against the consensus?

But I’m sure you’ve been in the fandom long enough to remember the Lyra/Heartstrings shitstorm. Hasbro had to go in and adjust their trademark to get everyone to shut up.

Seriously, TSP. “Owlowiscious” was used way more prominently. And Lauren - who was directing the show at the time the owl was named - confirmed his name is spelled like that. It is only reasonable that we use the correct spelling.
(Plus, it is totally MY fault that the tag “Owloysius” outnumbered the other, if you check the Tag Changes of the earlier posts. I made a huge mistake and never corrected it.)

It’s not an actual rage, dude. I’m just one of those holdouts that doesn’t like to misspell. I’ve got a music background, so it’s taken some time to get used to writing Cadance’s name incorrectly. I’m well aware it’s her proper name, and I also acknowledge Hasbro may not have been able to trademark the standard spelling due to its commonality (although they managed to get “Rarity” past legal).

We were having such a nice conversation in the other thread, too :(

@The Smiling Pony
Lauren herself admitted “Owloysius” is how it probably should have been spelled.

We’re not MLPWiki, so we don’t have to always abide by strict canon. If you’re thinking about doing an alias, my vote goes to which tag is more popular.

In this case, “Owloysius” is currently tagged nearly three times as often as “Owlowiscious”. Therefore, I think the former should win out.
