Ah, I see what you were getting at now. Yeah, they wouldn’t be moulded in twos because they’re always displayed in the packaging with the cutie mark facing out, which wouldn’t be practical with a mix of left and right. They’re consistent within a given release of a particular figure, but I can’t imagine how they decide which side to pick.
Mine was more a comment on inefficient assembly lines, but I do see what you’re saying.
The surface details like cutie marks and eyes are applied after moulding, so they’re free to swap them from toy to toy even when they share parts/moulds. Take a look at these two different editions of the Rarity brushable, for example - same body mould, but opposite sided cutie marks.
Weird. I could only see that if they’re molded by twos along their middles, but both of the Doctor Whooves ponies I got (red-tie/green-tie) were right-flanked. They could have come from the same line-up of course, but that seems a little odd to do for a 1-of-every-2 color variation.
Don’t get me wrong, I like the image. But there’s never been any consistency over the toys (heck, I’ve even seen ponies with the same body type in both left- and right-flanked versions).
The previous three figures (RD, Derpy, and Dr. Whooves) all had them on their right flank. Fluttershy was the only one so far with it on her right.
The image set up and idea was a bad one, I’ll just go ahead and admit it.
In the show, yes. The toys almost always have them on one side only. It’s a mix of left and right though, depending on the character, pose and version of the toy.
Not on the Funko figures, genius.
