I know about people having their vices, but even though that’s pronounced the same way, that’s a different word with a different meaning.
 
Both “vice” and “vise” are acceptable spellings for the clamp, but “vise” is the more common spelling in North America, whereas people in other English-speaking countries tend to spell it as “vice”.

It’s actually not, as vise with an S is a bench mounted clamp to hold something in place as one cuts or “drills it” ^^^, where as vice with a C means something along the lines of a thing that one is addicted to; such as liquor, drugs, porn, commissioning cute art even tho yer broke, and ice-cream.
