This is a remake of a drawing I made about a year ago. I wasn’t quite satisfied with it and I wanted to try and make it better.
Shining Armor discovers that his little filly, Flurry Heart, has to go potty. Cadance is typically the one who helps out with potty training but since she’s away from home right now, the job was pretty much up to him. Since he just so happens to get the call from nature at the same time, Shining decided to use this as an opportunity to teach by example. He even introduces her to bathroom reading which is typically more of a stallion’s habit. I hope Cadance won’t mind that her daughter is likely going to spend a lot more time on the throne due to her new reading habit that she picked up from her Dad.
This is not intended on being anything inappropriate as it’s quite common for parents to be in the bathroom while their toddler-aged children are there with them.

That is true, perhaps some of the controversy is stemmed from the fact that Shining and Flurry are both going to the bathroom together which some might see as a little taboo despite the fact that most parents have been in a situation like this before. When this was automatically imported to Ponybooru, a user commented saying, “A little too much bonding time.”. Maybe if it had been either Shining Armor by himself or Flurry Heart being potty trained without her father teaching by example, perhaps the like to dislike ratio would’ve been a little better. Perhaps for future reference, I won’t upload “risque” artwork like this to DeviantArt. I mainly wanted decided to remake it because I should’ve realized that if Shining Armor had something to read while on the toilet, it would only make sense for Flurry to have something to read as well.

My guess is that Shining and Flurry will spend a good 20-30 minutes on their thrones when it could easily take them less than 5 without their reading material. Cadance is just gonna’ have to learn to deal with that.

There’s also a book called, “Let’s Go to the Potty: A Potty Training Book for Toddlers”. The cover depicts one character on the toilet while another is on the potty and they’re both reading much like with this drawing.
Quite possibly. That was the theme of it, anyway.

Even though Flurry isn’t quite big enough yet to be using the toilet, I’m sure Shining does let her do the honors of flushing it once the waste from her potty is dumped into the toilet.
And I’m definitely sure that both of her parents have already stressed the importance of washing her hooves after going potty.
However, one thing that I’m curious about is how the parents feel about bathroom reading. Given that men are generally more likely to have this habit, I tend to think that Shining reads on the toilet while Cadance does not. And if Flurry picks up this habit from watching her Dad, I wonder how Cadance would feel about this? I like to think that when it becomes Cadance’s turn to potty train her, Flurry will insist on bringing a book with her and will continue to read long after she stops going causing Cadance to become rather frustrated.

@Background Pony #6DBF I suppose I’ll also be teaching her how to flush and wash her hooves, assuming Cadence hasn’t already done that.
He probably did that so that she could learn how to wipe herself.

Yes, kids are natural copycats. Whether they’re good habits(like learning how to use the toilet) or bad habits(like reading on the toilet for ridiculously long periods of time), kids tend to pick them up from their parents.
