Mostly because they either missed too much, doesn’t want what they enjoyed to be gone (regardless how much idiots try and demand to archive it, which defeats the very philosophical point of Unus Annus, the selfish jerks), or because they’ve found themselves bonding and attaching themselves to Unus Annus that once they realized just how close they were to the ending, they just panicked much like how some people realize how close they are to losing something precious to them, such as materials, money, power, loved ones or their very lives. And they just panic at trying to make arrangements. Some demanding that the clock is stopped or resetted, others rushing to watch and commit to memory, others try to archive/download the videos so they have something to re-watch or remember in a better way.
What you’re trying to say about what your logic is, according to what I’m reading from you, is that since people knew something was due to happen, why be surprised or why have any sort of attachment to something going away, correct?
Well say for example you know and knew that you’re to outlive your parents or some beloved living someone, like a pet, a GF/BF, that sort of thing, and their deaths were incredibly soon like perhaps in a year or less. If you’re saying that you shouldn’t hold onto those people and cut ties and attachment, it honestly sounds a tad selfish and hurtful to them or yourself.
Another thing is, nobody holds to your logic. What seems reasonable and logical to you doesn’t connect the same to everyone else. So hearing that Unus Annus was just a Year Long Event on youtube and thinking “oh ok, so thats just a thing and i’ll just move on with my day” is up to you, but then you’d just miss out on all sorts of shenanigans and the process of forming attachments, remembering the promise that it’ll be gone in a year, possibly suffer and mourn that what you watched, saw and liked is going to be gone, and once the end arrives you either continue mourning the loss or you accept the end that death is inevitable, that time always is ticking away, and its best to form memories and hold them fondly.
Some just don’t or can’t get the memo.
Then re-evaluate your logic?
If people knew it was going to be gone after a year,why are they so upset about it ending?
Sorry if I seem clueless,but this just goes against my logic.
The goal of making Unnus Annus was to have it exist for one year and then have it disappear. A trip for people to go on with them and then have an end unlike other channels. He’s asked others to not show the video’s. He isn’t mad and explains it on a short video where he warns people posting it up that if they don’t remove it their channel will likely be removed. It’s his content and he doesn’t want it out there. Dust in the wind and all that poetry stuff.
If you announce that you’ll delete something,isn’t that just inviting people to archive it?
Oh my god please just go do a quick google search. The whole point of Unus Annus was that it would only exist for one year, the name itself is latin for “one year”, in the very first video they made the promise that they’d delete the channel at the end. The point was for the people to experience it in the moment, gives it more meaning and value to people who were around for it.
Seems weird to make something alot of people like,only to take it away and get mad when people still want it around.
It’s not like he says something offensive in it or anything is it?

No, but regardless of the type of content Unus Annus produced, it’s still legally their content.

Mark has said he’ll try and take legal action against anyone who reposts the content.
sadly so. Someone also immediately jumped on the name on youtube, not sure how long they’ll be up as they posted one of the videos up already to boot.
Without a doubt, people have archived everything.
Mark and Ethan specifically requested that people don’t archive it, because that defeats the point of it all, but archivers gonna archive regardless. There appears to be a discord server dedicated to people archiving it.

There was a good bit of original content, actually. Beyond the regular daily random video there was the stuff specific to the channel, and the editing was often fun and interesting. Even if they did videos of a few things that other channels had coincidentally already done, I hadn’t seen those existing instances, so it was new to me, and probably a lot of others too.

markipler and a crankgameplays did a youtube channel for a year were they did a video a day and deleted it last night.
Not overrated because they were popular, overrated because it wasn’t original content, the idea of the channel itself was pretty cool though.

And I deeply sympathize you for not knowing.
Sadly you never will. The channel and everything else is gone now, just an hour ago it and its 4.35 million subscriber’s were deleted.
