That was NOT clever. In fact I despise this episode because they could have put clever analysis ONE time but went with the dumbest, most insulting one. The episode could have done so much (“never take friends for granted” or “don’t dismiss new ways of doing things just because you’re comfortable with old”) but instead went with something making AJ a complete idiot - she was thoroughly beaten and only didn’t lost the farm because friends cheated on her behalf PLUS FF got too cocky yet claims she won’t learn anything? What? Seriously?
Well the thing you need to keep in mind here is that “analysts” like Doctor Wolf, Silver Quill, and the rest of the bunch; know more than people like you and I. Because we’re all short-sighted dum-dums that can’t think for ourselves and need to look to them for their opnions and guidence. Because when you base your entire beleif system off from a kids show that was originally marketed for young girls means that your intelect and moral fiber far surpasses those who don’t obsess over every single, minute detail of every episode. Especially when they have a pedophile in their midst, it’s up to them to tell us how we should feel by telling us not think about.
Again because their I.Q levels far surpass us mere sentient primates, we pale in comparison to their vast wisdom and knowledge about life lessons and being a human being.
Also, gotta point out that “consequences” are not the be-all end-all of good writing. Ever heard of Diary of a Wimpy Kid? The main character Greg is an AWFUL kid who rarely ever sees consequences for his misdeeds, and yet the absurd premises on which the stories are based makes them hilarious. Suffice it to say that most kids who read DoaWK probably have enough common sense to realize “Yeah, Greg’s not a great guy” and don’t need it spelled out for them.
tl;dr - Spelling things out is actually MORE patronizing to the audience than not spelling things out. Surprised that the “analysis community” has missed that, but I guess that’s why I haven’t paid attention to them since 2014.
Right? I don’t Equestria Girls is all that great to be honest. Take Rainbow Rocks for example, throughout the enririty of it you just had Sunset moping around feeling sorry for herself. I get that she’s been “redeemed” but I felt that it was a missed opportunity to go delve into how she ended up becoming friends with the rest of the Mane 6. But those in the “analysis” community will tell you how great it is and how “it’s really stepped into it’s own and become and become a great expansion to the series.”
When in reality a lot of people feel that Equestria Girls was just Hasbro’s desperate attempt at competing against Mattel’s Monster High toyline. But you won’t hear that from the likes those in the analysis community. People are going to like what they like. A lot of people liked Power Rangers as a kid I was into Sonic Satam. A lot of people despised Teen Titans GO! I liked it for what it was, a goofy parody just like P.L. but the major difference with P.L. is (In my opinion) that it doesn’t try to come up with complicated awnsers to simple problems (or justifies lazy writing and poor character growth coughPrincesCadencecough)
It’s like taking someone like Weird AL Yankovic and saying that he’s unoriginal, he’s a prody artist that’s his thing. I think what has the analysists community so upset is because of the type of zany and mad-cap world that P.L. sets itself in. It’s nigh on impossible for them to make up some pseudo-philsophical rhetoric to base their opinions on. If you were to watch two different analysis videos made by two different people like say Golden Fox and Doctor Wolf, you’d end up hearing pretty much the same thing the only difference is one isn’t afraid to use foul language. It’s like none of them can come up with their own veiw either that or they’re not allowed to for the sake of putting on the image that they are actually freinds in real life. I don’t say that because I’m “bashing” the analysis community, but because I’ve seen othe Youtube groups fall apart over the years like SMOSH, Channel Awesome, another channel by the name of DanPlan. The Brony Analysis Community is no different in my eyes.
A lot of people don’t like Equestria Girls either. In fact, it used to be just as controversial as P.L. and in some fan circles, still is.
But I agree, people put critics/observers on too high a pedestal sometimes.

But views and opinions are not facts. That is one of the most glaring problems that part of the community has had for as long as I can remember.
When someone has a large subscriber or view count, it doesn’t always mean that the individual is always in the right. Especially when one filters out comments that they find “negative”.
A lot of people don’t like Pony Life and that’s fine. A lot of people liked Equestria Girls and that’s fine. But one shouldn’t try to use their “influence” to get people on board with their way of thinking.
They do not speak for everyone else in the fandom and to be putting it bluntly like blunt force trauma to the head, they really need to watch what they say when involving children on the internet.
I’m not speaking out of anger or hatred, granted I am still disappointed with this group as a whole.
Annoys me when alot of Youtubers do that, like they spoiled the final boss for “A Link Between Worlds” for me, and the final stage of “Mario Odyssey, and such for me before, just from Youtube thumbnails. It’s like Youtubers just don’t care, or assume everyone already knows.
@Background Pony #CACA
Ironic. Also, it’s a shame nobody can judge P.L. on it’s own marits, without comparing it to FIM, and such.
And I don’t think it’s only ‘cause of the reused cast, or similarities to FIM, I think they’d do it even with new characters, and such too. I remember bronies used to compare FIM to past gens too.

Dr. Wolf annoys me because he feels the need to put spoilers in his video titles, and whilst browsing the front page of youtube, he pops up in my recommended with the spoiler right there in his title… it’s really annoying to me. Though, I’m probably the only one with that problem x3
He ended up doing that for the majority of his Pony Life videos
You must be new here.
@Goddess Erosia
Speak for yourself. I’ve got a pair of episodes sitting on my couch that won’t leave. They hog the remote, they eat all my chips, and they make funny faces at me when they think I’m not looking.
Moral: always listen to Keeper. Keeper is always right,and it’s worth interrupting a team up special to tell us that.
I wasn’t saying the earliest was Talking down Just that it felt more like it was then pony life is It’s still just telling you what the lesson of the episode was instead of letting it speak for itself it doesn’t matter if it makes sense in the story
My point is that it works well in the story, it’s not a blatant “you’re a dummy so let me spell it out for you” it’s well… you know what it is.
They did occasionally do clever things with the concept.
It was literally just telling you what the moral of the episode was
Actually, I quite liked the friendship letters, it fit in well with the story.

Agreed, and unlike TTG, and such, it’s not too mean-spirited, nor sitcom-ish, and somehow still keeps the cute/innocence factor of MLP in tact, and you can see the characters still hugging, and still care about each other, and stuff.
And frankly, FIM in hindsight had alot of cartoony, goofy, or silly moments too and so did G1

So you’re saying “Friendship is Magic,” “Batman: The Animated Series,” and such are all dumb?
You’ve never talked to any kids have you? (And apparently forgot what it’s like being one.) And frankly, “FIM” is not an “adult cartoon,” and I’ve seen some adult cartoons follow ironically that same “characters screaming and acting crazy” formula that some kid shows do. The only difference is there’s more cussing/violence, and such.
@Goddess Erosia
Speaking as somebody whom doesn’t like the SJWs either, (and that goes for “reverse-SJWs” too) it’s odd for him to bring that up as there’s no “politics” in the show whatsoever.
It all depends on the episodes writer, but it has always been a show show directed towards a younger audiences and sadly, to most people this means talking down to the audience.
I agree with that.
Edited
Honestly the earlier episodes of friendship is magic felt more like they were talking down to children. Why i’m Glad they stopped doing the friendship letters
