Yyyeah, you’re either not bothering to read anyone’s posts or you’re the most laughably incompetent troll on the site, because this place is demonstrably chock full of people angrily insisting that the fandom started at 4chan and 4chan alone.
It sure is.
The 4chan community changes and morphs all the time. During the Bush and early Obama years, it was a liberal paradise. It wasn’t until Obama’s second term that it began to morph into something more neutral. Now, it’s beginning to transform into a liberal haven again.
This thread alone makes it abundantly obvious that a lot of you have never posted there, or even so much as read a thread there. 4chan is made up of a lot of boards, each with their own community. /pol/ is cancer, and not a single channer will tell you otherwise.
This fandom has NO views.

The thing you aren’t factoring in is: The person who posted in the thread/forum/blog/journal, where did they hear about it? (Granted, this also works on the flip-side. Someone from 4chan could have heard it from elsewhere.)

No one made the claim that it was the “patient zero” of the fandom. This is a claim you’re inventing through thin air to attempt to justify non-involvement from 4chan. However, it very likely was the biggest contributor to its booming popularity. On top of this, no one is exactly going to state where they came from on 4chan, just like people outside of the site aren’t inclined to say “I saw this on 4chan”. The “evidence” is “you actually bothering to pay attention to all the people who chime in on these idiotic derails to say that they didn’t get here through 4chan”. You have made an extraordinary claim and provided some extraordinarily lame “evidence” consisting largely of “4chan made some memes, Case Closed [dusts off hands and walks away]” and completely ignoring anyone who points out that My Little Pony fandom had already existed for 26 years before FIM debuted. Your nonsensical claim of “the fandom started on 4chan” is a self-reinforcing question-begger because every time someone pops up with some variation of “yo, I got here through some means which did not involve 4chan at all” you dismiss it out of hand because raisins.

At no point have I ever claimed that 4chan didn’t have a significant impact on the rapid spread of FIM fandom into unexpected demographics. Feel free to scroll back through eight years’ worth of my comments to find some example of that.

The point has been that the fandom wouldn’t be what it is today, nor as big, if it didn’t spread far and wide through 4chan versus elsewhere/other means
