I don’t mind her going the Shinpachi route, both try to keep the zany main cast grounded, and have head/face wear as icon.
Edited
Her character here isn’t any more one-note than the others. Pinkie Pie is a crazy goofball, that’s it. Rarity is a drama queen, that’s it. Rainbow Dash is super competitive, that’s it.
Really, I think it boils down to aesthetics. I don’t know about an “agenda” per se, but for years I’ve gotten the impression that the Hasbro execs just don’t care for Applejack. To them, they’re likely thinking the more loud, girly, fantastical characters (especially Pinkie and Rainbow) are what all the young girls want; that they’re not into the more rustic, grounded farmer.
I understand and appreciate your discretion. But I could hardly care if people got offended by what I said. Makes no difference to me who I mention, so long as the point of my argument gets across. If people get offended, that’s their problem, not mine. But eh whatever. I’m over it.
Sorry for being nitpicky, I just wanted to caution you against undermining your own argument by naming the wrong figure as an example is all (I’m not American either, but I believe using Benjamin Franklin or Alexander Hamilton would’ve been more accurate for that purpose).
That’s not the point of my argument. I really don’t care who the founding fathers are, I merely used them as an example.
Lincoln and Roosevelt cannot be considered part of the Founding Fathers, as the former became president 85 years after the independence and the latter 125 years (assuming that’s Teddy Roosevelt you’re talking about).
You’ve mistaken the Founding Fathers for the faces carved on Mt Rushmore methinks.
If it were that simple, I would agree. But again, she is the face of MLP. Been there from the beginning to its end. None of the other characters were even made when she was around yet. Yea, she can’t fly, she can’t use magic, she’s not a princess, she doesn’t rule a kingdom and she certainly doesn’t have a particularly memorable/unique character trait. But she is Applejack. The first pony. That tile alone should say everything to you. Let’s put it this way, what if Americans celebrated the founding father’s every year on Independence Day. But suddenly the government started to omit Abraham Lincoln from ever being mentioned as one or have him merely in the background as just a small noticeable individual whilst Washington, Roosevelt and Jefferson were still treated the same? Surely people would start to notice right? It’ll be a huge disservice to Lincoln and all his done for the country no?
That’s basically what’s happened to Appljack. She is the Lincoln of My Little Pony. You can’t take away Lincoln and still call America, America. Just as you can’t take away AJ and still call MLP, MLP.
Ooooohhhh, I see what you mean. Even if it is an agenda, it’s not a malicious one. Surely there’s more toy potencial in the entire series than one orange pony. She’s an earth pony, she can’t even fly or preform magic. She has legacy but thag’s about it.
It’s not some end of the world conspiracy.
No, no. I’m not talking about her character in the show. I’m talking about her character concerning the entire franchise. She’s one of the original ponies to have been made back in the Kate 70s to early 80s. Maybe even the first. She’s been in every iteration of the series, every rebrand, every promotional material and every license movie (whether it’s direct to home video or otherwise). She’s always been there and the cornerstone of the entire brand. More so than any of the other ponies combined, yes I mean it. Look it up.
My issue I have is that in recent years they have been pulling her merchandise off shelves, removed her or placed her in the background of promotional material, have her become less and less relevant within the franchise whilst pushing new characters like Starlight and Sunset to the centre stage. They’ve not done this with ANY other character of the main cast or secondary characters (Celestia, Luna, Cadence Etc). It’s only AJ that’s gotten this treatment. I noticed it back when Starlight was first introduced. It was jarring at first but I thought “meh, they just wanna sell more kids toys, no big deal.” But it was t just a one time issue. It’s a constant.
That’s my gripe here. The blatant disrespect of Applejack and her legacy. If she wasn’t made, I guarantee you that MLP as a whole would’ve never made it as far as it has. As said before, she’s been in every iteration no matter how successful or failing it was and every merchandise from the 1980s onward. Not even Twilight, Pinkie Pie or Rainbow Dash has as much longevity as her. Period. That’s why I feel it’s an agenda, the evidence is too strong to suggest otherwise. If there was something to disprove my assertions, like a interview or written letter by the execs about it, then I’m all for it. I don’t want it to be true. Not at all. But the evidence is clear as day imo.
An agenda, is that so? What sort of agenda could they have against the honest, hardworking mare of Sweet Apple Acres? None, that’s her entire character! That’s all there is to her!
That’s a terrible excuse as she has just as much potential as the others and is far more deep than all of them combined. No, there’s an agenda at play. Has been for years.
They didn’t have anything against AJ, she just wasn’t as interesting or potential as the other characters.
Most likely the latter. They’ve had something against AJ for years, this is just another red tape around the issue.
That’s the vibe I got from watching this.
Better late than never, I guess.
