Well, Pony Life’s showrunners aren’t the same as FiM (the only ones returning are the voice cast). And, like Beau Skunky said, Rarity’s ability to find gems wasn’t forgotten.
Yeah, her cutie-mark can be interpreted in several ways. In fact, every pony’s could. Remember Cheerilee’s lecture? Why would a school teacher pony, have flowers on her butt? She explained what they meant.
Even Diamond Tiara didn’t fully understand her mark.

That’s sadly true. Poor Rarity has to deal with selfish people all the time.
Turns out Spike isn’t the only one who snacks on her gem supply…
It makes sense. Many types of dirt can go away relatively easily, but selfishness… Not exactly.
