Indeed. It surprisingly played into the characters very nicely. While folks thought that Rarity was “OOC”, she actually suffered her own vice, her greed. She is generous, certainly, but she is also incredibly greedy, and not just in materialism but in her vanity, desiring attention for what she’s done.
Normally she gets this attention without trying. She also gets it all the time from Spike, who was never put out even if she went on a bananas crush after someone else (Trenderhoof) because he knew it wouldn’t last for her.
But here? Suddenly she wasn’t his number 1. Suddenly, she wasn’t the most important person to him. Suddenly, he wasn’t at her beck and call and that attention was going elsewhere.
And it drove her insane.
Her reaction ended up becoming twofold; trying to win him back by actually participating in events and such that he enjoyed (and finding out she enjoyed them), but it was also backstabbing in trying to forcefully put a wedge between him and Gabby.
There is a reason the O&O scene that Gabby steps in on hits so hard for her, because everyone knew what the scene basically was.
Spike calls in “too tired” to hang out. Gabby brings him soup only to find him not in bed, and when she looks into another room, finds him “playing a very intimate 1 on 1 game” with Rarity.
@Daneasaur
But I’ll admit, I still enjoy the episode Dragon Dropped, because how often do you see Rarity jealous of Spike when he starts hanging out with a new girl in town?
Seeing the little guy jealous of Rarity when she’s attracted with some other males is one thing. But to see Rarity star raving jealous, almost as bad as Discord was for Fluttershy and Treehugger, for Spike is a RARITY.
Spike has less chemistry with smolder than gabby, honestly. She’s nothing but a bully and a brat to him, except when her bipolar disorder kicks in and she becomes Ember and is suddenly his friend.
I’d rather see Spike shipped with Ember, someone who he fought hard to earn their trust and friendship.
Too bad he was basically never allowed to interact with her again when they introduced Smolder, which I KNEW was going to happen.
That’s kinda true. To me, Spike and Gabby’s friendship feel kinda forced, like it was made for the plot, their friendship was never mentioned again after that episode. As of now, I been seeing Spike being ship with Smolder lately.
Well I stated (before the episode aired) that one of the strong points on both characters is that, at their core, they want to be selfless, often to their own pain. That proved true in the episode when they get together and they (adorably) trip over each other to try and please the other and end up having incredibly wonderful times.
Well it did kinda came out of left field for most shippers, I guess.
Dragon Dropped happens
Fanatics: “Not THAT CMC member!”
I’m kinda surprised that there are still less than 100 images of the “spabby” pairing, and a heavy deal of them are from joke submissions from before the episode where Spike got, well, everyone.
Still cute pic
