Derpy isn’t a term of endearment; it’s what you’d call someone for doing something really stupid; there are no two ways about this. Just ‘cause you happen to like her name to be an insult doesn’t make it less of an insult.
Besides, she’s canonically Muffin, so…

I know 4chan is known for its toxic communities, but this is an argument that’s been beaten to death thousands of years ago. I don’t believe it’s horribly ablest for her to be known as Derpy Hooves. Very few art is actually mean about it, the majority of the fandom adores her.
…Derpy is an insult. It came from 4chan; it means—in its leat malicious form—stupid.
