I think that the spell will switch around the cutie marks of everyone in Equestria, and she winds up as a princess as a result. The subsequent spell, which just so happens to need the magical power of an Alicorn to manifest, is what fixes the situation.

But, much like the people caught up in this drama, that’s nothing more than conjecture at this point.
