If you mean the characters who were in a scene in the first couple of minutes of the first episode they struck me as people who were friendly but weren’t actually her friends because she wouldn’t spend time with them.

Okay, but I think they were actually talking about the group of friends that Twiley was shown to have had while at Celestia’s academy - Moondancer, Minuette, Lemon Hearts, and Twinkleshine? The ones she kept blowing off randomly to read an interesting book she’d found in the library? :)
