The Starlight I used in my fanfic had basically the exact premise. The story wasn’t about her, but she did play a big role in a side story. She talks about the past, and how she kept turning away from the truth. She convinced herself that cutie marks brainwash ponies so that she didn’t blame herself for Sunburst leaving and also couldn’t hate him for it.
 
It was the same with her village. She couldn’t stand the idea of anyone leaving again, so she’d break them to her will if they started to get out of line. Later on she was able to acknowledge that she didn’t truly consider them friends, but like possessions. They were HERS, and she wasn’t going to give them up. That’s why when Twilight ruined her village she got so crazy.
 
She was suddenly alone again. Lost to that despair the only thing left that gave her any motivation at all was revenge.

I can give you now a clearer information on how long this comic will be, since I wrote and sketched the rest of it by now. If I keep uploading it in pages with (about) A4 size it should still need about 8 pages.

I can’t tell you how many more pages it will take, but it is actually close to it’s end. There still has to be a more serious talk between those two, and after that it will reach the end.

And the biggest irony is that she is still an outsider looking in that just wanted to be like everybody else. Even in a town where she wanted everyone to be equal, she couldn’t because she couldn’t remove her own cutie mark.

That’s what her actual motive was. but people often flanderize her motive and dismiss as a bad backstory without a second thought.

I must say that it makes so much sense what you talk about. I appreciate what you told, it had touched my heart as well, as I relate to fear of losing someone. Fear of losing stability. I wonder how author of the comic will handle it.

Most likely his feelings will actually change things a bit for her. I intend them to discover that they actually have a similar problem in their lifes, namely a lack of BASIC TRUST.
 
It’s just my own head-canon, but for me Starlight’s “evil” actions were actually not an attempt of world domination. She didn’t try to dominate the world, she tried to turn the world around her into a place where she personally could feel absolutely save. A place where she would be sure nopony would ever again turn the back on her and leave her like young Sunburst did. Sometimes it’s hard to believe but the disappointments we face during our early childhood can become a burden we still carry around as adults. They are able to build “walls” in our minds which keep us from making needed steps forward. In short: Starlight’s reason to do what she did was not based on power hunger, it was based on fear, the fear to be abandoned again. “Our town” and it’s system was her save place. The fortress which she thought would guarantee she would never have to feel the same pain again…
 
That’s at least my theory and the idea I based this comic on.

Got to say, I’m curious where this goes. Does him seemingly developing feelings for her change things for her at all? How will Blue react once he learns what it really means to stay in Our Town, especially since comic takes place during the S5 premiere.

I must say, I believe that this kind stallion will make Starlight regret from her “communism” system.
