Background Pony #83B6
Rusty certainly left an impression in Lullaby’s mind. I the glowing white eyes are even scarier than the demon eyes.

Him claiming that he felt unwanted because he’s a Pegasus is interesting. Part of me thinks, that his parents didn’t actually care about his wings and the real reason they sent him to live with his uncle was because of his violent behavior. He, of course, wouldn’t be able to realize that there’s anything wrong with him and instead assumed it was because of his wings.

However, we also had Thistledown’s dad telling him that potion making is an evil Canterlot (aka Unicorn) things and not something an Earth Pony should. So it’s just as like that Rusty grow up in a very bigoted Earth Pony family who don’t like “dem winged an horned kind”.

Makes you also wonder if Thistledown’s dad every realized what kind of pony Rusty was. Considering how quickly Rusty decided to beat up Lullaby, It’s hard to believe that he never showed any kind of worrisome behavior around him. Did he try to rein him in or didn’t he care about it at all?

That would actually make Rusty more interesting character. A pony with mental issues, whose family made him feel unwanted simply because he’s not an Earth Pony. So instead of getting the help he needed, he was neglected which only increased his sociopathic behaviour. Then his family sends him to an uncle just to get rid of him. And said Uncle turns a blind eye to his troublesome behavior because he all he cared about was having another pair of hooves helping him on the farm. Doesn’t excuses his behavior but makes it more understandable.
