Spike himself: We still have no idea what happened to his parents or even who they are. The closest we got was the baitiest episode ever in S8.
Cat People: they were in the Movie and were a former trade partner with Equestria long ago, back in the days of Discord where Abyssinias King and Queen were close with the Royal Sisters. After Luna was banished and Celestia retreated into self-imposed isolation: the Unicorn Nobles of Canterlot slowly began to devolve Equestria into an isolationist state and cut off all ties with their Non-Pony allies: leading to troubles 1000 years later due to this, with the nations suffering in many ways:
Complete Economic Collapse (Griffinstone)
Invasion by a Hostile Power (Thicket and Mount Aris)
Or Both at Once (Abyssinia)
There were too many missed opportunities in the show to even count:
Lore about the Diamond Dogs and their connection with Equestrian History (I’d expect that the Diamond Dogs were treated as slaves by Unicorns)
Lore about the Zebras
Lore about the Deer
Lore about the Changelings (that they were originally Flutterponies until one of the Males gained too much power and began to corrupt the other Hives and wipe away every sense of culture or individuality in them until only two were left: this would be a wider-scope hidden conflict in the first 2 seasons that is hinted at in the background that would be built up to the season finale similar to how the Grand Galloping Gala was for Season 1)
Lore about the Buffalo (face it, the obvious departure of Buffalo from the series is completely noticeable when we have Yaks in the show as well: never even got a follow-up to Braeburn and Strongheart: Braeheart > Yonabar!)
Lore about the Abyssinians (One of Equestrias’ former trade allies before the Storm King invaded and razed the country to the ground? WHY DIDN’T EQUESTRIA BOTHER TO HELP THEM OR LEARN ABOUT THE THREAT OF THE STORM KING FROM THE SURVIVING REFUGEES!?!)
