Hey…Luna has a decent backstory like feasible. Co-ruler for at least hundreds of years not getting the attention they felt they deserved decides to throw a coup against the other ruler, its not the most original but thinking of every other mlp villain’s backstory or lack thereof it is amazing

And just for the record, “Because she’s a child” is valid, because adult characters at least had a whole lifetime off-screen to find a reason to turn evil, a child doesn’t even have that.

That is an unfair standard. Chrysalis and Tirek are the same way, in that they’re evil just because. Why does Cozy need a backstory when they don’t? “Because she’s a child” isn’t a valid answer. Also, trying to redeem everyone has never been a part of this series. There are numerous evil characters who are given no sympathy what so ever.

The problem isn’t remorse, it’s that it wasn’t determined if the reasons she so evil and remorseless was due to circumstances outsider her control and thus unfair to punish her so. If they gave her the same amount of backstory as Starlight, just a minutes worth, it would make the difference of one showing remorse work. But they didn’t.
 
I’m not denying Cozy was evil enough to deserve it, but her being so irredeemable is so at odds with the themes and idealism of the series that it needs a reason. If it’s due to insanity or just because, then it’s due to circumstance outside her control and unfair to punish her for.

and just FYI, I was linking to that article because of people saying that kids can’t be criminally punished and tried because “THEY’RE JUST KIDS THEY DON’T KNOW WHAT THEY’RE DOING” and that was just to show that yes, they can absolutely be punished
