We did first meet Lyra in Canterlot before Twilight left, so I always figured she’s from a high society kinda family but chooses not to live like it for whatever reason. I figure she probably doesn’t get along with them, ‘cause it’s not much of a fit: some snooty refined look-how-high-class-we-are rich family, and…  

 
…yeah, her. So she’d never be good at living and acting the way everyone around her wanted, found herself much happier when she stopped trying, and now hangs in Ponyville. But is far from broke.
 
Though as others have said, it’s probably not even that - just that when you’re a small town like them, anybody’s wedding might make the news.

I don’t know how it is in the rest of the world, but in my country, most papers have a small corner where rich ppl can straight up pay to have their parties featured. The question is whether either of the two adoralesbians could afford that.
