Description
The old barn doors shut heavily behind the two ponies as they scurried inside. Their furry coats were soaked, tracking a large stretch of rain inside the shelter. It was dark inside the barn, as there was no light from the outside. The storm was booming. Thunder and lightening cracked to what seemed like every three minutes, as the pounding rain hit the windows from the outside. The only noise from the inside was a soft huff.
“That was insane, Als.” Suddenly the lights flickered on, making the talkative Pegasus look around curiously. Her golden eyes found her friend’s, as they stared at each other for a second. “That storm is ready to eat somepony alive.”
“It probably already has.” Alizarin made her way towards a basket, taking out a towel and throwing it on her back. The short mare shook herself out a little, letting the towel catch any water that flung off of her. Her Pegasus friend just looked at her, then shook herself off without any towel. Her feathery body immediately puffed out.
“I would like the rain a lot more if I didn’t become a peacock in mating season every time I tried to dry off.” Her famous smirk was presented on her face after she said that, like she was proud of her statement.
The short earth pony rolled her eyes, trying not to amuse the Pegasus. “Don’t go ‘n make everythin’ a wet mess. Ah just cleaned in here, Golden.”
“Psh- We just went to our first date~~” she paused, smirking some more, “Which was amazing, by the way~~” she paused again, beginning to walk around, “And you’re still a big grumpy grump grump.”
“Ah ain’t a grumpy grump grump,” Ali growled, “And that wasn’t a date.”
Daze was completely turned around as she searched Ali’s room. Everything was new to her. “Then what was it? A friendly reminder that you’re completely and deeply in love with me?”
Ali was blushing hard at Daze’s words, which made her fumble with hers. “Ah- Ah ain’t in love with you! Don’t go- go tootin’ your horn, ‘n don’t flatter yourself.”
The playful Pegasus just snickered, now looking at the assortment of pictures on the wall. “Y’know, I can’t believe I’ve never actually been in here before. We’ve known each other for a while now, and I’ve never been in your little barn house.”
“That’s because Ah don’t like anypony in here.”
“Why’s that?”
“Ah don’t like ponies seein’ mah things,” Ali kind of whispered. Her voice was rather gentle at this moment, as she let Daze look at her pictures.
Daze looked through all her pictures slowly and carefully, wanting to grasp this moment when she could. She knew Ali’s mood could change at any minute, which would make her not allow Daze to look at them anymore. As her bright eyes looked through, she opened her mouth to speak. She didn’t want to say anything that would change Ali’s mind though. The Pegasus rarely got the chance to get to know Ali’s life. Guess Ali trusted her enough. “You were hella cute as a baby, guess nothin’ has changed.”
Ali grunted, as she trotted towards Daze to look with her. She noticed her friend’s eyes were caught on one picture, and Ali just stared at it with her until somepony broke the silence.
“Who’s that holding you?”
The picture stood on the dresser below all the other frames. It was by itself, next to a couple green bows and a hairbrush. The photo was simple, just a brown mare holding a filly. They were both happy, the filly a little more. Daze kind of smiled at the sweet picture.
“That’s mah mama,” was the only answer Ali gave as she looked up at Daze who towered over her. She didn’t really know why she looked at her, maybe to see her reaction.
“You never talk about her.”
“No need to. She’s not in mah life so why would Ah?”
Daze just nodded, still staring at the pair in the picture. “You looked so happy.”
“Yeah.”
The Pegasus breathed in deeply, wanting to ask so many questions to calm her curious brain, but of course she didn’t want to step over Ali’s boundaries and get kicked out into the storm. Daze couldn’t help herself though. “Why isn’t she in your life anymore?”
Ali just stared blankly into the wall, saying nothing. Then her eyebrows furrowed, her thoughts flying around in her brain like bats in the night. “That picture was takin’ three hours before she left- after my Pop ‘n her got in a fight. Ah don’t remember what it was about- or why they fought- but next thing Ah knew- she was out those doors. Never saw her again.”
Daze’s heart hurt a little when she heard that, but she was also happy Ali opened up to her for the first time. “I’m sorry that happened, Als. Really.” Her voice was soft and sweet, and she couldn’t help but put her large wing over Ali’s back for reassurance. The earth pony tensed up, but slowly relaxed and blushed.
“That’s why Ah have trouble trustin’ ponies. Ah don’t know if they’ll leave. You should’ve seen mah Pop after that. Never seen a pony that shattered before.”
“I understand, Ali. I’m scared too- of somepony leaving me.”
“What sparked your fear?”
Daze thought for a second, not wanting to ruin the moment. She was still in shock that Ali was opening up to her. “It’s not that somepony has left me- it’s that I’ve seen the same thing with somepony I love. They were destroyed too.” The Pegasus left out the important thing that would’ve made Ali change her mind about Daze. Daze was the pony who left her friend.
Everything stayed silent for a while, as the two just stared at the photo in a close embrace.
Finally, here’s a post! Sorry everyone, I’ve been very busy. Here’s a story to read on my two girls. I hope you enjoy!
