Some internet comedian started a hashtag weeks ago about getting this massive mob of people together to ‘rush Area 51 and see the aliens’. Unfortunately tens of thousands of people took it seriously, some bunch of Vegas promoters got involved and promised everyone there’d be bands, booze, and strippers, and it just kinda snowballed from there.
 
They were expecting 25,000 people to show up and start charging the front gates (which are 13 miles away from the ‘No Trespassing’ sign) and at least two Dutch Youtubers got arrested for trying it a few days ago, but apparently most people of them found better things to do with their time.

There’s also supposed to be a “serious” ‘aliens at Area 51’ event going on at the same time close by. Makes me wonder what happens if the drunken partiers meet up with the hard-core paranoids of the David Icke stripe there?

Apparently only about 75 showed up outside Area 51, one arrested.
 
But there’s still a major gathering nearby in this Alienstock, some thousands of people. They aren’t rushing the gate, just having a good drunk time about aliens.

There’s also supposed to be a music festival but the main guy organising it backed out a couple of weeks ago. They still have a line up and going through with it anyway.

So it when from “Storm Area 51” to “Hang around Area 51 and hope something interesting happens”

it’s not so much a “raid”, moreso just people grouping up as tourists to see an “event” and see if anything interesting happens, meet likeminded people or I guess just make their boring little lives a little more interesting for a day or 2.
