Still is important to the storyline. Not only was Rainbow Power the way that Tirek was beat but Twilight’s castle came from that box.

There was really no filler. Many times episodes seasons apart had things that referenced each other.
MLP is primarily a slice of life show where the majority of the episodes are meant to be self contained. Calling any of it filler is dumb.
You literally just described how season 9 went. Everything pretty much built up to the final battle. Most of season 9 was preparing Twilight to become the next ruler/Tirek Cozy and Chrysalis plan to take over.
Too bad they didn’t put Starlight in those glasses.
She was very important for the final battle.

If thats you’re measure for a good story, why didn’t you quit the show after season 1? Season 1’s overarching narrative is 1 episode of-“we’re going beg Twilight for gala tickets!” 22 filler episodes later “we’re at the gala! Season’s over!”
