Plus, Scoots was also really angry at the time, so she was letting her emotions get the best of her.

I don’t know why people be mad that Scootaloo can’t fly. In “The Washouts” she admits that she can’t fly and would never be able to join the Wonderbolts like Rainbow Dash.

Still pissed we never got her flying. Such a waste of a possible great episode.

I do understand where you are coming from, but i do not agree. It is still a triumph to overcome disability by not letting it define you. Overcoming something does not necessarily always mean doing the thing people said you could never do if it was not meant to be. While i would have liked to have seen her fly, I can understand having her not. Some things just dont happen. Moving on woth your life is part of acceptance and overcoming that. I would more propose to agree to disagree.

Good point, although I’m sure that if even if she isn’t actively seeking to be able to fly if ever presented with the opportunity she’d probably take it, unless it came at some great cost

I will never understand why she cannot use her “connections” as a protegee of an element of harmony and a teacher of VERY prestigious school to make herself able-bodied pegasus.  
But then again, maybe she CAN fly, as Bulk Biceps is capable of flight despite having equally small wings.

Except in one episode she literally says she doesnt care if she never flies, as long as she has her friends she’s ok. So she has long since accepted she may never fly and she’s ok with that.
 
Its not really like her wings precent her from living a full and normal life. She simply can’t fly. Maybe if the opportunity arises she may consider it, but clearly she isnt scrambling for a solution and is living her life happily.

True but what if she wants it fixed? she’s always wanted to fly so I’m sure if she was presented with a way to repair her stunted wings she would want it, a lot.

the simple fact that she herself feels that this IS a big deal for her: a Pegasus who is unable to Fly is as painful as a Composer who went Deaf, a Cook who lost their Taste, an Artist who lost their hands.

I read a fic where a pretty similar reason was given. Except the fic I read was called Keeping Your Promises And Dash at first didn’t want Scootaloo to go through with the surgery due to the risk on her life.

Several works tackled the reasoning why she was unable to fly in very interesting and mature ways: Helljumpers in particular said that she was actually-suffering from a cancer-like, rare Unicorn Disease that was blocking her Magic flow to her wings leading their stunted growth, and the reason why it was never noticed in medical examinations before was because of the limited technology that Equestria has… fortunately, she and Twilight encountered and befriended the UNSC where they had the medical technology necessary to fix Scootaloo Hurricanes’ wings, lickety-split!

Flight to the Finish.

To me, the episode (name slips but it was like S4/S5 in prep for Equestria games) where DT/SS were the worst and literally insulted Scoots for not being able to fly came to the conclusion that Scoots at that point going forward could care less if she actually flew, only that she got to do what otherwise was the best with her friends, which was a key characterization point.
 
Some part of me does wish the show actually said “disabled” or some other language to imply that, but then again, between the one disabled pony in Trade Ya! and Kerfluffle, the fact that the show “shows, doesn’t tell” is fine with me. I am sure there are young viewers of MLP that are disabled themselves and don’t necessarily want that to be forced at them.

I’ve talked with Warc before a lot and he doesn’t seem like a jerk to me. He just wanted to see one of his favorite characters to achieve their dream. I’m not going to pretend that he was a bit naive or stubborn about that opinion (I’ve even debated with him about it before).

Agreed. I liked that the show still presented Scoots having a happy life even though as well as showing her being accepted by others despite her disability. I think that’s a wonderful message.
 
I’m glad the series showed that message with her, Tempest, and some other disabled ponies in the series (e.g. there were at least two different ponies with wheelchairs in the show). They all have friends and are accepted by the other ponies. That’s such a good thing to teach kids. Teach disabled kids that they’ll be loved and accepted and teach kids that aren’t disabled to treat people the way you wanted to be treated (with respect and love).
