It’s implied but not confirmed. So it can either be canon or non canon and either way, they would both make sense.

C’mon Dash! You can’t just rush progress with extreme haste!! Not EVERY chore has to be done under 10 seconds flat!

You can’t invalidate someone else’s interpretation of a character with your own interpretation of a character. I think there are plenty of fanfics out there that show pretty much every ship could work out without being awkward, as long as the writers puts effort into it and knows the characters. Saying it would be awkward just because doesn’t really make sense.

Um yeah, no. You don’t know Dash very well. The only time she shows the vast majority of those traits is when she is horribly flanderized in badly written episodes (of which there have been a couple recently). Pairing any of the mane 6 with each other (even if they did swing that way) is idiotic. It would be extremely awkward for any of them, as they are more or less honorary family at this point, kinda of like a (slightly older) version of the Westermark effect. The ONLY reason the show or anyone else is even implying it is because they share the same voice actor and I guess some people think it’s a funny meta reference.

Dash is an outwardly feisty and brash character who is actually a big softie, a fiercely independent competitor that desperately needs the validation of others, she’s a bit of a showboat and lazy. Applejack lives her life for her family she works hard and doesn’t seek the same kind of praise, even in that episode where she gets 3rd she’s more disappointed that she can’t support the way she wanted rather than the result. Kinda opposites in a way. Sort of selfish vs selfless.
 
I think RD pairs pretty well with a down to earth mostly well adjusted and stable character like AJ. Applejack is a strong silent type, while Rainbow wants everyone to know she is strong and cool when she’s actually a very vulnerable character.
 
I think that this leaves a lot of interesting questions and makes for a dynamic that inherently has tension. Sounds good for storytelling.
 
Probably one of the most dynamic pairings you could have, and you wouldn’t necessarily have to ever feel like one of them is 100% in the wrong since their flaws make them sympathetic.
 
I don’t feel like this is out of character or an impossible pairing. I actually think it’d be pretty interesting to know how characters who were rivals found appreciation for one another, despite their (at least introductory) viewpoints / lifestyles being near opposites.

Oh I acknowledge that they are trying to “imply” it in the episode. Which is EXTREMELY OOC for both of them. But that’s beside the point. The show has been one OOC moment after another for agenda pushing since the hiatus ended. I’m done. It ends on S8 for me. As far as the epilogue, I just have 3 words: Star Trek Enterprise. Yes, I went there. It’s as bad as the finale of that show (I can’t say it’s worse but it’s certainly tied or very close behind it). This is how I feel about all that crap (not just Appledash but ALL of the stupid crap, shipping or otherwise), and S9 in general. I’ll let xkcd explain it in an image better than I can.  

at this point if you don’t see appledash here you just don’t want to, which is totally fine but the implication is pretty direct, people saying stuff like “they’re just roommates” is ????? these are two adult characters with no other implied relationships while all of the other mane 6 (except maybe twi dont remember) have their own relationships shown or implied during the episode

I’ve chucked season 9 in the metaphorical bin. It’s jumped the shark bad since the hiatus ended. All they’ve done for the past few episodes is see how much they can get away with and push agendas. No effort whatever to make sure things are consistent. Constant OOC moments. The show ends on season 8 for me so I will never consider their weird pairings canon no matter what they say. I don’t even have any season 9 episodes anymore, deleted. Before the hiatus it wasn’t as bad but the main arc made no sense and there were a lot of OOC moments. I’ll still watch Best Gift Ever and Rainbow Roadtrip… That had some bad voice acting for the new characters but it was otherwise decent. But as far as I’m concerned S9 didn’t happen and the show ends on S8. Just never thought they would jump the shark this badly.

The hoops some people jump through to pretend this isn’t obvious shipping fuel. I don’t like the pairing, and never got why it’s so popular. And I guess that’s part of why they left it at an annoyingly strong single hint and then stayed quiet for the rest of the episode. It seems like it’s canon until they’re totally sure people won’t get mad at them.

In orignal dub, Rainbow Dash is saying how they’re always late to places because Applejack doesn’t allow her do some of the chores.  
It implies they’re going to places together very often.

Aside from her mane. RD acts and looks pretty much the same.
 
Rarity looks almost exactly the same as before. I’d say she does a pretty good job preserving her appearance.

Rainbow could have just as easily been visiting Sweet Apple Acers, out of all the mane 6 she would probably be the one with the most free time and visits her friends most often. People are just reading to much into it.
