I guess they figured spike could use some pajamas I think a nightgown looks cute on him.
 
 
Honestly really This isn’t the first time they’ve upped spike’s model his claws/feet/hands got more defined in season 7 his head scales where see thru in the mlp movie and he got wings last year and season 8 I guess the evolution of his design is more noticeable since he’s one of the only core characters that’s not a pony
