From this pic, it appears Edge (Nagase) is Fluttershy, based on her line. And Spitfire would be the instructor.

The Tastiest
Ace Combat 5 for the dialogue, but the enemy plane is the boss in 6.
 
For character roles, I figure that Spitfire would be Edge, the determined wingmare / love interest. Soarin’ would be the goofy guy (who dies heroically), Rainbow would be the super-rookie who joins later. Probably some Night Guard or Griffin would fill in for Snow.

This is from the opening movie from Ace Combat 5, during which a squad of trainees is attacked by a fully trained squadron of enemy fighters. After the battle, the only surviving trainee is scolded by her instructor for flying recklessly.
