“Nova, get back here!” Hazy called out, trying to catch up with his little sister.
Nova waddles into the library unabated, giggling the whole time. She then hears a noise and turns.
“Mistuh Somba!” She cried, running over to hug his legs. Hazy stopped, his face red. The cool older man looked down at the child and continued working.
“Prince Hazy, Princess Nova.” He greeted, walking to put away some books. Unfazed, Nova continues to waddle after him. “How goes your day?”
“I-it’s… its going well.” Hazy stammered, hiding behind a desk. “You?”
“This king is still getting used to the vast quantity of books the princess has in the library.” He stated, placing the book on the shelf. “I’m impressed by the quality but the there aren’t many in her collection.”
“Did you use to have a lot?” Hazy asked, sitting by the table.
“This king had hundreds and thousands of tomes, many that housed secrets never to see the light of day.” He said, seeing the curiosity burning in the two children eyes. “Do you wish to know some of them?”
““Yes!!”” Both children cried out, excited at the thought of learning something secret. But then…
“Shouldn’t you be more focused on your work, Mr Sombra?” All eyes fell on Sirius, who openly scowled at the older man.
“Surely this king is allowed to multitask.” He countered, not rising to his taunt. “And surely young prince Sirius is not proposing I hide my knowledge of lost magic from others, is he?”
“Dark magic.” He pointed out, stomping a hoof.
“There is more than just light and dark, young one.” He sighed, watching the trio take a seat. “Assuming there is just the two is very narrow minded. Perhaps this kind can enlighten you young ponies on how much magic is truly out there.”

Working in Twilight’s castle as a librarian, Sombra bumped into the sparkle kids often. He liked them just fine, though Nova was super clingy and Hazy just stared at him for long periods of time. Still, they were all willing to stop by and allow him to talk about the ‘old days’ in which magic was so much more varied and exciting.
Everyone but Sirius, who disliked the former king of dark magic. He didn’t believe the man had changed but kept up with their ‘classes’, intending on making sure his dear siblings remained uncorrupted.
Note:
- Hazy had a huge crush on Sombra as a kid. To him, Sombra was the coolest and most awesome stallion ever!
- Nova gained her fasination on magic from the tales she heard from Sombra and would later reseach how the varied types of magic shifted and changed into it’s current form.
