The sun is the closest star to us and its just named that way, others stars are named differently, by name and/or number.
The sun is what we call our star. All suns are stars.
Well maybe, except Twilight represents the sun at well twilight(sunset or sunrise.
LOL
Only Sunny-buns (aside from Celestia) has a sun for a cutie mark. Twilie and Starly have a star.
I’m afraid she’s not that talented, plus her cutie mark only has a crescent moon.
Twilight, sunset, and Starlight, all their cutie marks is most likely the sun.
According to my avatar, they all represent the sun.
