This scene reminds me of Dragon Quest VII. That game has living books (Grimoire, Hexicon and Black Book) that attack you if you examine certain shelves, and you apparently can recruit them. Though Black Book is DLC.

You know this is a good point, until my late teens every dream I ever had that I was able to recall upon waking (wether nightmare or “not”) followed something like a forced “Murphy’s law”.
 
Whatever was the one thing I did not want to happen is exactly what would happen.
 
 
I have powers? They fade out or are stolen from me.
 
I need to hide from something? It finds me, maybe even my cover vanishes.
 
Someone cares about me? They vanish/I cause their death.
 
I care about something or someone? Harm comes and anything I do is pointless or far more often makes it far far worse.
 
 
Not really sure when or why this changed to more neutral territory but I guess I certainly can’t complain.

other issue is that she is asleep, in a dream you can be much more or less powerful.

She’s in her own nightmare and more than often in a nightmare,you’re powerless

You can really tell they had fun designing these nightmare monsters, they almost remind me of enemies from Mario or Zelda XD

Huh that could actually be the reason why she looked so helpless. New headcanon acquired: Twilight’s doesn’t ever want to harm books, even when they’re evil.

Against Tirek, she’ll uproot mountains.  
Against books? She can’t harm books!
