Mindgames are a vital part of it, but I prefer the other side to intimidation: Instead of a vague something claiming the enemies one by one, without them managing to pinpoint what’s wrong, I prefer to be clear in my message to them: It’s me. I’m watching, I know you’re there, I can kill you if I want to with this button I have here, and if you don’t comply, I just might press it. It requires some previous reputation, but that can be fixed with the aforementioned button.
I’d say I’m not one for subtlety. In fact, I’m pretty fond of overkill, which is why I do what I do, the way I do.

Subtlety is good, when necessary. If the mode of infection is nigh unstoppable then you can typically forget the sublet approach. Not to mention natural paranoia will always set in with any infection situation. “The Thing” is a prime example, the infected didn’t act any differently, which led to a guessing game as to who was what, it’s fun to watch enemies rip each other apart out of fear.

Overt terror tactics can be useful to. Never under estimate what primal fears can do.

Yep :3

but the mass weak enemy/zombie tactics are a bit ineffective against well put together forces I’ve gathered always have to come up with something stronger yet still expendable or just a more stealthy way of infection. Something undetectable but with a slight ‘something’ that makes others know something is wrong something to keep people on their toes even when they don’t have to be, make the weak willed ones snap, make the paranoid ones panic, even the strong fall to a prolonged infection

Mind games are half the battle

Yes, experimentation can lead to some great discoveries, usually after some nasty failures. The first time I tried to make a thaumite charge for a rocket, the things got loose and ate half of my old lab. But aftera few more screwups, I now have something that’ll wipe a city clean of life while leaving structures intact, so all that’s left to do is move in and take everything.

Thats why undead and eldricth monsters are always fun. Spread a little plague here, create some horrible abominations there, easy.

The added benefit of undead/infectious creatures is that every enemy causality adds to my forces. But you can’t just rely on shambling zombies or some sort of zerg’ish infestor of course, to fragile. Bio-engineering can lead to such wonderful things….and at times oddities. Did you know that creating creatures that bleed explosive substances is a bad idea…I didn’t. One paper cut and the whole lab goes up!

If the battle goes poorly, if being the key word. If troops are well designed, that should not happen.

Also, I did mention I don’t usually use troops, and that’s because logistics are a nightmare. Transports, fuel/food, morale, all that stuff. You only need to feed an ICBM once, after all.

Cheif, I don’t like putting my eggs in one basket as it were. I’d save the big things for a trump card to pull if things go south.

Medium strength troops, capable of taking on larger forces, but not a big loss if the battle goes poorly.

If I absolutely must use troops, I prefer the juggernaut approach. Watching a huge beast just shrug off everything you throw at it… that’s something that’ll stick with them forever.

Of course, I usually don’t use troops.

@Zincy
I prefer mass replaceability for my terror troops personally :T

Something easily replaceable, sort of weak, but seemingly uncountable in number can be utterly terrifying

Because evil villainy is fun and rewarding…unless you’re a minion. Then it’s rewarding up-till and maybe even after your horrible death.

@Zincy I’d recommend you go for a few tougher troops. The impression of implacability can put fear in whatever you may want to face.
Why am I advising this individual I will never know

Advanced terror troops are such a hard thing to get right. Have to be hardy enough to survive till the main waves arrive, but expendable enough to be easily replaceable.

Back to the drawing board….Maybe something partially robotic…

@Zincy This thing will stick out like a sore thumb in a city or military installation. Plus, it could be taken down by a blow to the jaw, can’t do crap about pegasi, and would be locked down by a unicorn with a decent grasp of telekinesis.
Really, this thing is an ambusher, and made to take on one pony at a time. If they don’t have the element of surprise, they’re pretty bad, and in a city, once the first few ponies go down, they lose it and get trampled to death. You need something tougher, or something that isn’t a creature.

Well I was wondering if they would be good to say….drop a few in a crowed metropolitan area in order to sow mass chaos in preparation for a vanguard of shocktroops. Or purhabes unleashed into the dark areas of a military installation…
