^Actually Rarity’s never shown any interest in Fancy Pants, or not romantic anyway. They seem to have entirely platonic feelings towards one another.

She was also interested in Fancypants, who was a high class white unicorn that was older than her. Age might not be a sticking point for her, though.

^Well not really as far as Rarity’s taste in stallions. The only one she’s been shown to be interested in that fit those creds (the only character period so far, actually) was Prince Blueblood and that seems to have been more for his royal title/her ideal of a fairy tale romance than for himself anyway. Not to mention he doesn’t seem to be much older than her.

I generally see Spike as only slightly younger than the Mane Six. He’s also reached physical adulthood through what seemed to be natural means, before regressing himself back to child size. I’m not sure how one judges the age of someone that could choose their age, but I tend to estimate high.
 
Rarity has lots of reason not to return his feelings, beyond whatever his age actually is. Golddigger or not, she seems to prefer older high class white unicorns.
 
Come to think of it, her taste in stallions is the same as Spike’s taste in mares.

I’m pretty sure Spike being a dragon isn’t why she doesn’t return his feelings, more like the fact that he’s a kid and in the friend/little brother zone anyway.

Because Spike decides this is the only way Rarity could love him and does something desperate. Then, with the scaley exterior stripped away, Rarity sees him for what he his, and loves Spike back, even when he returns to his dragon body.
