Trixie sat in her room, wear she and her wife slept, reading over a spell book. The family had been given their own wing in Twilight’s Castle as they both worked there for quite some time. Her eyes grazed over the pages, merely reading of the spells, and not practicing any, when a small colt ran into the room dragging something behind him with his horn.
Jasper: “Mom! Mom! Look what Aunt Twilight gave to me!” He ran over and sat down next to his mother, with a large dusty hat covered in yellow stars and blue spots.
Trixie: “Oh, what did she sho-” She paused as her eyes widened seeing her old performance hat. “Ah, wow…I haven’t seen that old thing in years…” She turned her head and looked back down at her son. “Where did Auntie Twilight find that thing?”
Jasper: The colt smiled and dusted it off a bit. “She was looking in an old room for a book and found it. She told me I could give it back to you.”
Trixie: The mare smiled and giggled softly. “Mm, that’s right. I tried to throw it out but Twilight just wouldn’t let me…” She smiled seeing how much her son enjoyed the hat.
Jasper: He smiled and nodded trying to hand it to his mother. “Why’d you get rid of it, Mom?”
Trixie: Trixie shook her head and sighed softly. “I was getting frustrated with work, that’s all. Not a lot of ponies like to pay to see a unicorn perform unimpressive spells.”
Jasper: “Your spells are amazing, Mom!” He hugged her neck and looked up at her.
Trixie: The mare smiled and hugged her son in return. “Thank you, Jasper. Now, about that hat…”
Jasper: He paused and slowly placed the hat in her hoof. “It’s still yours Mom…Here.” He said, using his magic to push it closer to her.
Trixie: She shook her head, and using her own magic lifted the hat and placed it on his head. “There. It may take some time to grow into it but it’s all yours.”
Jasper: “Aw really? Thank you! I want to learn all of Mom’s old spells too! I want to be a performer, and show off some cool spells.” He smiled and looked up at her. “I can’t wait!” His grin only grew bigger as the hat fell over his ears.
