“When your castles lay in ruins, your gates broken at your feet and your throne sundered, I will ask again; was angering me worth it?”
The princess of the sun bore no serene smile as she hurried along the dark castle corridors; indeed, her heart held no joy at the prospect of descending into the warforge to outfit herself for battle.
To think that it would come to this, that she would have no choice but to harm another living soul… Saying she would rather die would only be a slight exaggeration.
As she dwelled upon these thoughts, her hoof caught an uneven tile and she stumbled. Pulled out of her ruminations by the surprise, she looked at the offending piece of stone and couldn’t help but have her mood soured even further. Even her own castle betrayed her with the decay of slow, inevitable ruin.
… Ruin…
Her head rose up as a rush of inspiration struck. There were many ways to win a war, and bloodshed was merely one of them. A smile crept back to her lips; a sly grin of mischief this time, and she darted down a side corridor she’d previously had no intention of traversing.
She was no longer heading to the warforge -not yet at least, as she would still need her armor- but instead making a detour towards the ancient, Deep Vaults.
It was time to dig up and dust off her father’s favorite old toy.
