Luna was not possessed, cursed, hypnotized, or anything. She turned NMM on her own, deal with it!

He did it because her hair reminded him of gak.

I’m starting to guess NMM was the dam bursting from several bad influences, Sombra being the first pony to teach how her anger could augment her magic.

Meh. King Sombra didn’t really show the muscle or the psychological chops to make me think he could do that. Even at the height of his powers, the Royal Sisters beat him without the Elements, and the only mental trick he pulled was the fear door, which doesn’t make him some master manipulator.
 
Unless he shows some better game later, I think that he was just the starter villain for the real plot of the season.
 
I still find it more likely that Discord said something to her that got under her skin.

I think Luna has some history with Sombra. Given the way she was acting in the beginning of Episode 1 and everything.

And Discord too! And Chrysalis! And maybe Trixie! It’s all connected!
