I thought he was wonderful. Looked great, sounded great, and provided a very tense atmosphere. What little backstory he has was also very impressive. Here was this unicorn - just a mortal unicorn - who became so powerful he enslaved an empire and required TWO alicorns to take him down. And he STILL managed to drop a curse, inspire fear a thousand years later, and make a come back. Yeah it was for all of two minutes, but DAMN that’s cool.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

Most incompetent villain ever. He used the clever tactic of not doing anything at all and hiding important plot elements in plain sight.

I think the King was just okay. The episode, unlike other episodes where the villian was the focus, wasn’t really about the King.

I do admit that he was pretty anti-climatic though. Thought who knows? He might return. I mean he was crushed by two faults closing together, he can probably survive being dismantled to pieces.

One thing is for sure though. Celestia sure can change her stained glass windows pretty fast.

Its because people can’t find a way to make him some poor misunderstood soul he’s balls to the wall an evil overlord

I think they did a fine job making him seem menacing in the beginning. As much as I loved seeing Cadence fly up and snatch Spike + the Crystal Heart it kind of took all of the threat out of his attack once she could blast him away.

Kaze ni Nare
He tested the mane cast. he pushed them to the limit. He rendered SA useless. An antagonist’s job is to be an obstacle for the protagonists… I’d say he proved to be a pretty impressive obstacle all things considered

But all of his precautions. All of the traps he set up were BRILLLIANT. That was where his real menace came from. The sheer amount of shit he had in place to protect the heart is what makes him menacing in my opinion. He’s a brilliant magical mind.

Also, if things had gone to shit before they did, had Cadance failed, had the mane cast fucked up in any way, then he would’ve WON. No if ands or buts. He would’ve straight up DEFEATED them without a fight.
Background Pony #7DA7
I think the fact he couldn’t do anything till the last five minutes of a 2-parter didn’t justify the build up. And when he finally got to do something, the heroes already found his Kryptonite and just needed to make the handoff.

Also, his troll-door was more active at trying to stop Twilight than he was.

Kaze ni Nare
I think he can use the Crystal Heart to protect himself from the EOH and to generall empower him. I reackon the first time the rincesses beat him, they did it through trickery. They lured him away from the heart and the empire somehow and jumped him.

In power, I doubt he would’ve made that mistake again

Escapee from Alcatraz
Just saying, I thought he was the most menancing of all the Villains.
Just because unlike other villains, he didn’t win, not even for a second, which really leaves up to your imagination what the world would be like under his command.
Discord’s chaotic world was probably pretty crappy, Nightmare Moon’s Eternal night would eventually starve everypony, and Chrysalis siege on Canterlot was pretty threatening, However, Sombra’s dominion was nothing but misery and pain, and it wasn’t even for sustenance, like Chrysalis, but for sheer sadism.
Also, I didn’t feel that he was taken down by bad writting.
Trickquestion
The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

I felt he didn’t have a whole lot of threat about him. We knew Nightmare Moon, Discord and Chrysalis meant business, but it was always in the back of my head that if Sombre got out of hooves, the Princesses could just blast him again.
