Wait. It was daytime in The Crystal Empire, and it’s night time in the valley that Ponyville resides in.
 
Either that aurora moved so slowly/Equestria is so far away from the Crystal Empire, that it was dark in Equestria by the time it arrived there. OR, the Sun doesn’t rise and set East to West, because if the Crystal Empire just is North, that means it should be in the same time zone as Equestria if the planet was on a similar axis as Earth.
