Ponies that are magically gifted seem to have this coincidental day/night partnership to them. And one of them seems to be cursed at going berserk evil and then reforming.

Celestia and Luna: Luna became Nightmare Moon due to issues.
Twilight and Sunset: Both students of Celestia and Sunset was the evil one.
Starlight and Sunburst: Sunburst is Celestia’s student but Starlight became evil when they were separated.

Its an interesting theme.
