The edit could have also been because Apple demanded it. They don’t want to have anything that could be considered offensive in their online store.
 
Just like when they demanded a game called Childhoods End to be edited because of a brown bear they thought was pedobear.

Ahaha,well maybe I did come out as very serious.I was actually kidding,since well,sure,there are reasons for me to get offended,but I never really minded about the theme of that comic.What really bothered me was was,like you said,the hypocrisy.It seems that Yamino never thought that maybe there are some people that might not be happy with her for using religion in that way,even if it’s not her intention.And it was very obvious that there wasn’t any intentions from the writers’ part to make fun of the invalid/disabled.Yet she complained.
 
What happened with Yamino was she was very recognizable in the fandom.And not only in this one,she happens to be known in the Adventure Time and Legend of Korra’s fandoms as well(and she’s not very liked either,it seems),she wasn’t just a random anon who rambled at everything.And when the shitstorm happened,she unfortunately became a scapegoat and received all the blame for what happened.
 
The true is: that she wasn’t the only one who didn’t like Original Derpy.Other people were responsible for sending those letters to Hasbro,but she was already there,and was easer to direct all the blame and hate to her.
 
Don’t get me wrong,I’m not defending her,because like TARINunit9 said,she didn’t handle her disapproval in an appropriate way.But the pony community still doesn’t realize that she wasn’t responsible for Derpy’s edit.

For fuck’s sake…  
Let’s get three things straight here: 1. Yamino expressed disapproval at Original Derpy. 2. Hasbro ended up editing Derpy. 3. The previous two facts are COMPLETELY UNRELATED!! Yamino did NOT lobby Habro at any point; the animators themselves pardoned her from all blame  
(this is NOT to say Yamino handled her disapproval in a mature manner; she certainly didn’t)

I’m an atheist, but I can understand why you’d be offended. I’m mostly just bothered by the hypocrisy and the fact that it’s genuinely not a very interesting comic.
