Daring Do North? Never heard such an idea for her name. I could get behind it.
@Vinyl Fluff
Here’s a page on the whole thing.
I don’t know. From what I heard (which admittedly is only hearsay) Hasbro forgot the name used for the character was her actual, official name.
They did pick up the last name idea really quickly with her, after it began being suggested.
Could they have even copyrighted “Trixie,” though, with it being a real name?
Generally when you see a new name slapped onto a character from Hasbro, it’s because either the trademark on the original name was already taken, or it was too generic to trademark.
So somewhere, some company likely has a trademark on Daring Do. So they slapped an additional name on it, and bam, it can be trademarked. Same thing happened to Snips and Snails, and a few other characters.
There are some exceptions. Lyra is called Lyra Heartstrings because her original name was just Heartstrings. But her fanon name had been created and used long before her official name was released. So fans resolved this by saying Heartstrings was her last name. And Hasbro picked this up, ran with it, and renamed her toys officially.
And Trixie gained Lulamoon because apparently Hasbro forgot the character actually had an official name in the show, and thought Trixie was her fan name. Fans responded with “Just do it like Lyra. Make Lulamoon her last name.” And bam, they did.
If they had any foresight, they should have called her Daring Do North, but that’s just me. /shrug She looks great.
“Dazzle” seems to be Hasbro’s go-to word to make an otherwise generic name copyright-able, considering there are also toys labelled “Diamond Dazzle Tiara.”
