table sugar (cane sugar) has almost as much fructose in it as corn syrup. sucrose = 1 fructose, 1 glucose, and “high fructose” refers to 55/45 fructose/glucose. maple syrup is also 50/50, and so is honey.
and totes natural agave nectar is almost all fructose. that stuff will give you hepatic steatosis like nopony’s business.
with sugar, try to keep it to glucose syrup and dextrose (usually sold as “corn sugar”) and limit yourself to about 25 grams a day at most.
you can eat a little more sugar (even fructose) with fiber, because the fiber absorbs, and slowly releases it, and it also gives gut microbes more chance to eat the sugar. that’s why apples don’t kill you, and why you should eat your vegetables first. but if for some reason your intestinal fauna needs extra feeding, try an ‘indigestible’ starch, like potato starch. The goobers love that stuff, and it won’t ever spike your blood sugar.
