“Crash?” Fleetfoot had been looking for her fellow Bolt for almost an hour now. “Crash!” Nothing. She turned down another hallway. “CRAAAAAAASH!!!!” Silence. “Grr! Where is that pony?!” she growled under her breath. She passed the lockers, the dorms, and headed over to the lounge. As she was about to walk in, she saw a flash of blue in her peripheral vision. She whirled just in time to see Rainbow Dash trot swiftly out onto the balcony, disappearing into the night. “Hey! Crash!” Fleetfoot galloped after her. Once she was through the doors, she turned and saw Rainbow’s wings spreading. “CRASH!” she shouted at the top of her lungs. Rainbow froze but didn’t turn around.

“Y-yeah?” she asked. Fleetfoot cocked her head. She hadn’t heard Rainbow stammer for the past few weeks.

“I’ve been looking for you!” she snapped. “Or rather, screaming for you. You didn’t hear me?!” she asked in disbelief.

“Err…Nooo.” Rainbow’s eyes wouldn’t meet hers.

“Wait…” Fleetfoot took a step back. “Are you…lying?” It was incredibly conspicuous. Rainbow’s ear drooped a bit. Fleetfoot’s voice softened a touch. “You okay?”

“NO!” Rainbow blurted. “I haven’t been okay for, like, a week! I’ll never be okay again! I’ll… Urrrgh!” She turned away again, squinting her eyes shut.

“What’s wrong?” Fleetfoot asked worriedly. “Are you hurt? Sick?” Rainbow gave a wry snort.

“Sick would be most accurate,” she muttered.

“Have you seen the nurse?” her friend demanded. “If you’re feeling this bad you should go get a check up!”

“No, no,” Rainbow hurried. “Not sick like that.”

“Then what-” Fleetfoot stopped, watching as her friend glanced nervously around the large empty balcony. “Oh!” she gasped, realizing the problem. “Oooohoho! It’s hiiiiiim, isn’t it?” She leaned in, raising her eyebrows teasingly.

“W-what? N-no! Why’re you talking about Soarin? I’m not talking about Soarin. Are you talking about Soarin?” Rainbow blabbed, looking around at everything but Fleetfoot.

“IT IS!” Fleetfoot whinnied triumphantly. “Crash has a cru-ush! Crash has a cru-ush!” Rainbow clamped a hoof over her friend’s mouth.

“Keep it down,” she whispered urgently. “I don’t want the entire academy knowing!”

“She ADMITS IT!! There you have it folks:Crash has just admitted her passionate love for none other than the great and klutzy CLIPPER!!” Fleetfoot, acting like an announcer, didn’t notice the desperate look on Rainbow’s face for a minute. She glanced over. “Oh. Sorry.” She grinned. “I’ll quiet down a bit.

“Thank you,” Rainbow grumbled. “And it’s not *‘passionate love’,” _she added.

“Suuure it isn’t!” Fleetfoot replied, voice dripping sarcasm. “Just like I don’t have wings.”

“Oh, come on, Fleetfoot!” Rainbow snapped. “It would never work!”

“What the hay are you talking about?!” Fleetfoot demanded. “It’s already working! You two have been drooling at each other for the past two months!”

“No, he’s been helping me catch up to you guys in training. Nothing else.” She heaved a deep sigh. “He probably has a crush on somepony else.” Fleetfoot’s eyes narrowed.

“Uh-uh! I know Soarin, and I know when he’s drooling all over somepony!”

Rainbow rolled her eyes. “Yeah. Sure he is.”

“Yes,” Fleetfoot retorted, nodding her head crazily, “he is. Since you came he’s barely been hanging out with Spitfire and I at ALL! He’s been flying around with you, missy!” She jabbed Rainbow with her hoof, making her smile a bit.

“But …what if…? Ah, never mind,” Rainbow huffed, sitting down. Fleetfoot raised an eyebrow, ordering her to spill it. “What if he asks me out on a date and I do something stupid? What if we’ve been dating for a while and one of us decides we don’t like each other? What if he doesn’t like me but doesn’t want to hurt my feelings, so he doesn’t break up with me?!”

“One:” Fleetfoot began, clearing her throat, “being Soarin, he wouldn’t even notice if you did something stupid. He’s oblivious to manners. Two: Do you like Soarin now?”

“Well, yeah,” Rainbow answered. “But what if we get to know each other more and end up _not* liking each other?”

“You’ve been training with him, with us and in private, been playing games with him in the lounge every night, and eat every meal with him, for the past TWO MONTHS! I’m pretty sure you know each other pretty well. Third: I know Soarin well enough to know that if he was in an unhappy relationship, he would break it up.” She looked at Rainbow. “Does that help?”

Rainbow sighed. “Yeah. It does.” She still didn’t look 100% convinced, so Fleetfoot threw a wing over her shoulders.

“Look, when he asks you to start dating him, just do what you want. If you like it, great. If you don’t, or run into a problem, I’m always here for a girl talk.” Rainbow smiled up at her friend.

“Thanks, Fleetfoot.” She stood up, took a deep breath, and blew it out. “Wanna get crushed in Cloudy Card?”

Fleetfoot leaped to her hooves. “Absolutely!”

So, I am REALLY enjoying this new shading style!! And I also know that their legs are wacko. Just ignore them.

I think that RD and Fleetfoot would be like Soarin and Spitfire are: bros. They talk about everything together that Rainbow can’t talk about with her friends.
