Honestly, Starlight spent her life doing nothing BUT solving everything with spells. She already had an innate talent for it, but she ran with it. Twilight may also have the talent, but Celestia knew how to curb the talent with this thing called Life, it’s part of the reason she appointed Spike to her.
 
Had Twilight been a study freak on magic but NOT on how to properly socialize, we would have another Starlight Glimmer, except instead of the cutie mark thief, she’d be more akin to Snowfall Frost, who did nothing but focus in magic and could have been destructive to untold levels.
