Part of karma/point systems is that anything potentially controversial can begin to snowball. Before I voted it (down,) it was at +2, and then it went back up to +2 after that.
 
My guess is that people saw it getting downvoted and just jumped in when they wouldn’t have otherwise. Same thing happens when an image gets a lot of positive karma.
 

 
As for it affecting you personally, there are plenty of things in the world (good and bad) that doesn’t affect people personally. But it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t care about it or advocate for justice. Show me a person that doesn’t care about how something effects other people, and I’ll show myself out.
 
So regardless of how you feel on the matter (Personally, I think Hasbro did the right thing,) the argument that “It doesn’t affect you personally” isn’t a very good argument.
 
Mostly, I can’t believe people are still upset about it. After a while, your anger goes from justified/unjustified to being an indicator that you have much larger issues of a psychological sort. This is something we all learned at a young age: Even if something is wrong or unjust, you have to get beyond it.
