I’m not entirely sure, but I think it all started from a collective idea from the fandom about Luna returning from the moon after 1000 years and not being used to any of the modern tech the ponies might have, video games being a big part of that. After trying some games out for a bit, though, she gets hooked and can’t stop playing.
And thus, Gamer Luna was born.
If you check the “gamer luna” tag and hit last, you’ll see that the artist known as johnjoseco drew Gamer Luna as a character in some of his comics.
Since this concept was popular when I first started visiting this website, I assumed the fandom collectively decided that Princess Luna was “the princess most likely to enjoy videogames”.

Luna probably could 1 vs 1 a lot of ponies. Unless they’re the kind that keeps guns and swords in their room “just in case”.
