According to folklore, at the end of the year, Zao Jun, the god of kitchen would return to the Jade palace in heaven. By then, he would report the activities of every household over the past year to the Jade Emperor. In order to bribe him to compliment on the family, people would prepare sweets to worship him. In my family, my grandma still worship Zoa Jun, so we would buy a lot of candy and cookies during the Spring Festival.”
