I felt a little awkward when I first saw Emerald Ray’s cutie mark. I love green ponies and the random stallions. But when your pony reminds you of…
 

 
…one of the worst companies on the planet, you don’t feel so good.  
I can’t get the connection out of my head but I don’t want to suddenly turn this pony into a horrible villain. I’m very sure that Hasbro didn’t want to make a connection between their environmentally-oriented ponies and a manure stain on the face of the planet. And I don’t want the little toy horse to pay for a big company’s crimes.  
But then I remembered how horribly ironic the BP logo and graphic design is. A green sun for a polluting oil/gas trader? And cutie marks aren’t usually ironic that way.  
So Emerald Ray will play his cutie mark both straight (meaning what it represents) and ironically (playing against what it resembles). An environmentally-minded Earth pony and a businessman whose company focuses on renewable energy such as solar and geothermic to produce power for Equestria’s sporadic electronic devices.
