KC, Calabar deliver brilliant quinellas in 400m finals
Kingston College (KC) reigned supreme inside the National Stadium as Tajh-Marques White led home a brilliant one-two to close day three of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Championships yesterday.
White sped to 45.84 seconds ahead of his teammate Marcinho Rose (45.90) while third went to Holmwood’s Omarie Williamson (46.66).
White ran a well-timed race as he came from off the pace to run through to the field to pass Rose to secure the victory.
A few minutes earlier, Jason Pitter of KC sped to 47.92 to win the Class Two 400m final ahead of Calabar’s Dwayne Sharpe (48.30) while Chanton White finished in 48.56.
In the Class Three final, Calabar’s Rajeve Allison stormed to victory in 50.33 to lead home a one-two for his team ahead of Justin McKoy (50.66) with third going to Lacovia’s Nicholas Jones in 50.73.
Muschett’s Johan-Ramaldo Smythe clocked a respectable 21.10 to top the qualifiers going into today’s semi-finals of the Class One 200m event. Makaelan Woods of Jamaica College (JC) (21.12), Antonio Powell from Edwin Allen (21.13), Romario Hines of Munro (21.14), Junior Gallimore of Calabar (21.14), Sanjay Seymore (21.28), Lacovia’s Rosean Smith (21.31), and Ian Barker of St Catherine (21.33) are the other main qualifiers for today’s semi-finals.
Jason Pitter from KC sped to 21.61 to lead all qualifiers for the semi-finals of the Class Two 200m event. Malique Dennis from JC (21.62), Jadon Dennis of Holmwood (21.69), and Nasir McMorris (21.73) are the only others to dip below 22 seconds in the heats. Wolmer’s Deandre Myers (22.00), Usain Bernard of Petersfield ( 22.04), KC’s Azriel Allen (22.05), JC’s Kyle Thompson (22.06), and Shadane Lewis of Petersfield (22.10) are the other main qualifiers.
In Class Three, Tiene Barrett from Rusea’s clocked 22.58 to top the qualifiers for today’s semi-finals. Rajaun Romelly of St Jago (22.66), JC’s Tyler Morgan (22.92), and KC’s pair of Emmile Higgins (22.94) and Andre Genus (22.99) are the other main qualifiers for the semi-finals.
JC’s Samuel Creary registered a time of 1:55.33 minutes to top all qualifiers for today’s semi-finals of the Class One 800m event. In fact, only Creary and Simion Bailey from Charlemont clocked 1:55.78 to dip below the 1:56.00 mark in the heats.
Shavan Jarrett of Titchfield (1:56.22), Raheem Palmer of Alpansus Davis (1:56.27), Maggotty’s Yoshane Bowen (1:56.38), and Tayshawn Williams from Munro (1:57.62) round off the top five qualifiers.
In Class Two, William Knibb’s Thywaine Sterling recorded 2:00.14 to lead the qualifiers for the semi-finals. Ratieo Waters from Titchfield (2:00.27), Christopher Anderson from KC (2:01.40), Jermaine Swaby of Titchfield (2:02.63), Denbigh’s Markland Williams (2:03.75) round off the top five qualifiers for the semi-finals.
